Callogenesis and regeneration potential of plantlets of local sugarcane cultivars

For in vitro investigations 5 bottles of each concentration were inoculated for callusing phase, the data was collected after 30 days of inoculation. Callus induction in five sugarcane varieties were obtained at eight different concentrations of (2,4-D), after four weeks callus were cultured on regeneration medium. After shooting the plantlets were transferred for rooting by culturing on eight different concentrations of rooting media. Finally rooted plantlets were acclimatized and transplanted to earthen pots. It was noted that 2,4-D at 4mg/l took minimum (14.83) days to produce callus per bottle followed by 2,4-D at 3.5mg/l. The maximum days 17.7 took to produce callus at 0.5mg/l, 2,4-D followed by at 1mg/l (16.30 days). Among the tested six varieties of sugarcane BL-4 took minimum (14.83 days) to produce callus followed by Gulabi-95 (15 days).
