The genus Trichogramma is comprised of more than 70 species in the world. These are egg parasitoids used in bio-control for lepidopteron insect pests which destroy almost all types of crops like cotton, sugarcane, soybean, sugar beat, maize, rice, wheat, sorghum (Crops), brinjal, cabbage, potato, tomato, okra, cauliflower (Vegetables), apple, plum, apricot, grape and citrus (fruits). Presently, extensive releases of Trichogramma are made annually in many parts of the world because Trichogramma is a best candidate species in biological control. In Pakistan, Trichogramma has only been used on a larger scale in the sugarcane crop. Borers are serious pests of sugarcane crop throughout Pakistan. Sugarcane borers have a complex of natural enemies. Trichogramma spp. has been used and recorded in Pakistan against these borers. Despite its importance, rearing of this parasitoid in Pakistan has not been done extensively.
