Eight genera of plant-parasitic nematodes from sugarcane in the Central Punjab area of Pakistan were identified. The frequency and population of nematodes was higher in ratoon crop as compared to the plant crop. Helicotylenchus and Tylenchorhynchus were the most frequently occurring species of plant parasitic nematodes in all the zones with a prominence value ranging from 20 % to 45.9 %. Population of Pratylenchus spp. was recorded at 18.8%. In addition, other genera isolated included Hemicriconemoide spp., Hoplolaimus spp., Meloidogyne spp., Xiphinema spp., and Trichodorus spp. Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne javanica were identified in 10% of the fields sampled. Helicotylenchus and Tylenchorhynchus were widespread in the sugarcane production areas of central Punjab.
