The soil buffer capacity was studied for eight typical soil profiles, representing arable soils from the Kujawy-Pomorze Region (Cambisols, Luvisols and Phaeozems derived from glacial till). It was found that the studied soils belong mainly to strongly buffered soils and their acid-buffering ability is higher than base-buffer one. Samples from horizons that contain calcium carbonate, have had the highest buffer capacity against H+ ions and much smaller against OH-. The results of the study indicate that the buffer arease are significantly correlated with pH, hydrolytic acidity, content of CaCO3, sum of exchangeable bases and CEC
