The aim of this work was to find out the effect of several resistance inducers and copper compounds on the in vitro germination of conidia, capacity of induction of systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in olive plants and the effect of nitrogen nutrition on the infection by S. oleagina. The experiments into the effect on the germination of S. oleagina have shown that copper compounds significantly differed among them, so the efficacy of the tested products depends not only on the concentration of copper, but also on the formulation of the commercial products, probably due to different solubility of Cu2plus ion. Some of the SAR inducers showed an effect on the germination of conidia as well, reaching a complete inhibition of the germination in most of the cases. The capacity of several SAR inducers and copper compounds to induce resistance to olive leaf spot has been evaluated using artificially inoculated olive plants. Our results show the efficacy of these products against S. oleagina in olive plants. The efficacy of some products was influenced by the time of treatment. The influence of nitrogen nutrition on the infection of S. oleagina has been evaluated on olive trees and on artificially inoculated detached olive leaves. No conclusive results were found, since no significant differences were observed between olive leaves containing different levels of nitrogen. Inoculated leaves showed a major susceptibility affecting older leaves and low nitrogen containing leaves, although these results were non consistent among the experiments
