The aim of this investigation was to assess the role of a genotype and other factors (year, inoculation, mineral fertilizers) in the root yield and the microbiological activity of the rhizospheric soil. The sugar beet root yield varied and depended on all the factors and their interactions. The effect of inoculation depended on the year of investigation and the applied mineral fertilizer rates. The effect of mineral fertilizers on the yield was dependant, to a great extent, on the interaction between a sugar beet genotype and inoculation. The change in number of all the examined microorganisms was largely affected by the interaction of the year, mineral fertilizers, genotype and inoculation. The examined factors and their interactions in each year of investigation had a different effect on the number of all observed microorganisms and the dehydrogenase activity.
