The main objectives of the study were to asses and compare physico-chemical properties and concentration levels of heavy metals in leachate waste collected from five municipal waste landfills in Vojvodina region. The nost abundant metal in the area was Ni (concentration of very toxic Ni2+ cation ranged from 0.50-4.54 mg/L for non-sanitary and from 4.61-5.03 mg/L for sanitary landfill), while concentration of toxic Cd2+ cation was the lowest (less than 0.02 mg/L). All water samples point out to low concentration levels of dissolved oxygen and high values of COD and BOD indicating high organic pollution of leachate water.
