Extrusion is thermal process most commonly used in our country for treating grains, oilseeds and complete feeds intended for young animal feeding systems (piglets, calves, lambs, chicken), and for fish and pet food production. Heat treatment of raw material and complete feeds is aimed to inactivate inhibitory substances, enhance nutritional value, improve physico-chemical properties of animal feed, upgrade safety and sensory properties of extruded product. In this paper there are shown physico-chemical properties of animal feeds (based on corn, sorghum, enriched corn meal, soybean) and pet food obtained in extrusion process. Nutritive value of extruded product has been examined in calves nutrition. This paper also discusses quality parameters of extruded feeds.
