Lazim, A.M., Agricultural Research Corporation, Kadugli (Sudan). Kadugli Research Station
The objectives of this study were to determine chemical composition of some fodder trees leaves and twigs, vis crude protein, crude fiber and in addition to their major and trace elements content in the rainy, early dry season and in the late dry season. The study was conducted in Ganaya forest, Kadugli Forestry Circle. Acacia polyacantha (kakamout), Dichrostaychys cinerea (kadad), Ziziphus spina-christi (sidir), Acacia senegal (hashab), Acacia seyal (talih), Balanites aegyptiaca (heglig) and Oxytenanthera abyssinica (gana) were selected. Leaves and twigs samples were taken at three different time throughout the year. The analyses of crude protein and crude fiber followed the method of (AOAC). Major and trace elements were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometer and spectrophotometer for phosphorus. The results indicated that Acacia senegal, Balanites aegyptiaca and Ziziphus spina-christi could be vital in increasing range quality and quantity at critical period when animals need is maximal. Moreover, plantation of these trees could suggested to be valuable in range improvement program. The results showed deficiency in Sodium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Manganese, Iron and Copper. Supplementary feeding could be important when animals feed on the browse only
