Our work is focused on assessing of the content of selected risky elements in varieties of highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) and cranberries (Vaccinium vitis - idaea L.). Over the last years an increasing interest in blueberries and cranberries from the standpoint of their beneficial effects on human health has been growing. The contents of risky elements - Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb were assessed by AAS method in 10 varieties of highbush blueberries (Reka, Nui, Spartan, Northland, Bluecrop, Nelson, Berkley, Brigitte, Jersey, Herbert) and 6 varieties of cranberries (Koralle, Ida, Sussi, Sanna, Linnea, Runo Bielawski). Analysis of four varieties of blueberries (Reka, Bluecrop, Nelson and Jesrsey) showed that assessed contents of Pb were by 50 % higher in comparison with limits given by legislative and in variety Berkley the lead content was 2-fold higher when compared to hygienic limit. Higher contents of lead were measured by 50 % in two varieties of cranberries (Sanna, Linnea) and in variety Koralle was its content 4-fold higher than hygienic limits. The measured content values of Cd were in all varieties of blueberries lower than hygienic limit. Contents of Cd were enhanced in 5 varieties of cranberries, almost 3-fold by variety Koralle, Ida 2-fold, Sussi almost 2-fold, Sanna more than 3-fold, Linnea more than 2- fold in comparison with limits given by legislative. It is important to carry out monitoring of heavy metals in edible parts of crops due to consumption of safe food raw materials and foodstuffs.
