Peculiarities of anatomical structure and basic chemical composition of Vietnam VA06 elephant grass
2009
Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet
In this article the peculiarities of microscopic structure and basic chemical compositon (content of cellulose, lignin, exstractives compounds and ash) of VA06 elephant grass stover has been investigated. The elephant grass had different age and location. Results of the study showed the bundles in cross section of grass stover has form as dark points and fairly evenly position. From inside to outside the size of the bundles descreased in size from the center to the outside, density of the bundles increased. The bundles of grass stover composed the vessels located in the center and surrounded by fibers and phloeum. In outer part of the stove the bundles is smallest in size and denser in density in the inner part. The total quantity of the bundles increases from outside to inside of the stover and from base to top. The elephant grass stover grow in the different location has different chemical composition. Average cellulose content 40 percent, lignin 18 percent, compounds dissovlved in ether more than 16 percent, ash content more than 2 percent. The chemical composition of the elephant grass stover showed that it can be used as materials for production of some high economical products as pulp, biofuel, etc.
