Effects of genotypes and ecological zones on productivity and efficiency of cattle raising in Binh Dinh province
2009
Le Dinh Phung
Results showed that zones did not afect cattle production scale (cattle/househld) (P 0.05) while households keeping Yellow cattle had higher cattle production scale/household than household keeping Brahman crossbred cattle (P 0.05). Households keeping cattle in the lowland zone and households keeping Brahman crossbred cattle had higher concentrate feed and total investment for cattle production (Vietnamese Dong/household/year) than households in the mountaious zone and households keeping Yellow cattle (P 0.001). Keeping cattle in the lowland zone had higher output (Vietnamese Dong/household/year) than in the mountaious zone (P 0.05). Kepping Brahman crossbred cattle had higher output than keeping Yellow cattle (P 0.05). There were no differences in terms of cattle production gross margin (Vietnamese Dong/household/year) between households keeping Brahman crossbred cattle and households kepping Yellow cattle in each ecological zone (P 0.05). Cattle production gross margin of households in the lowland zone was about 57% of that in the mountainous zone. Ecological zone, kinds of household and their interaction affected cattle production efficiency(P 0.01).
