Up to the middle of 1980 Bulgarian selection had achieved remarkable results by the method of gender hybridization. A significant number of wine and dessert grape hybrids were created. A systematic intense clone selection of more than 200 grape varieties with good economic characteristics is being carried out in Western European winegrowing countries. A large number of the clones established abroad have demonstrated very good agro-biological and technological qualities when grown under local conditions. Due to various reasons the clones created at the end of the twentieth century from a number of grape varieties with valuable economic characteristics were not introduced. The local wineries have demonstrated their interest in new varieties and clones in their ambition to improve the quality of wine and its competitive capacities. This forced producers of vine planting material to create mother plantations at the clone level from varieties with already proved technological characteristics. No scientific research experiments have been performed in Bulgaria concerning the greater part of clones imported from foreign countries. Scientific research activities in relation to this issue were focused on surveying the agro-biological and technological parameters of newly introduced clones of the Chardonnay grape variety - clone 96 and the Pinot Noir grape variety, clone 115. The survey was carried out at the Experimental Winegrowing Facility in the town of Septemvri in the years 2006-2007. The objects of the survey were Chardonnay clone 96 variety and Pinot Noir clone 115 variety. The following parameters were surveyed – climatic, biometric parameters, indicators of the fertility, yield and quality of the grapes. The results obtained demonstrated that those clones were with combined design – both for productivity and for quality.
