Research results of natural fodder base and spectrum of diet of sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) fingerlings grown in ponds in monoculture was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. There was studied the dynamics of development of fodder organisms in pond and their consumption by starlet young fish in the conditions of different stocking density. Fingerlings of sterlet, zooplankton, zoobenthos, and content of feed bolus were used as research materials. Two winter ponds were used for fingerlings growing. Species composition of zooplankton was presented by 19 species. There were stated the following main zooplankton cladoceran species: Daphnia longispina, Bosmina coregoni Baird, Bosmina longirostris, Ceriodaphnia reticulate, Chydorus globosus Baird. Research showed that growing of starlet fingerlings could be successfully realized in winter ponds. Application of mineral and organic fertilizers provided high level of development of natural fodder base. At the beginning of vegetation period sterlet underyearlings in the majority of cases consumed zooplankton and small forms of zoobenthos. At a later stage they preferred the other forms of benthic life (Chironomus plumosus, Glyptotendipes gripekoveni) and other (larvae of dragonflies (Anisoptera), true bugs (Hemiptera), and ticks (Acarinum)). The rate of natural feed in feed bolus in course of a season varied from 95,5% up to 96,8%. The rate of combined feed was only 3,2-4,5%. The average indexes of fish intestines filling was 230,99% and 266,99%
