In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were realized studies with the perennial leguminous grasses (alfalfa (Medicago sativa); meadow clover (Trifolium pratense L.)) and maize (Zea mays) at Poozerye region. In course of the study there was analyzed the quality of yields (crude protein; crude fibre; P2O5; K2O) of green mass of maize, meadow clover and alfalfa. Also, there was analyzed the efficiency of fodder production (fodder units yield; crude protein yield; total expenses) of alfalfa and maize. Analysis of economic efficiency showed that growing of perennial grasses including prime cost for silage production and prime cost for protein production proved to be more effective for perennial grasses in comparison with maize. In was more profitable to feed maize to dairy cows (profitability was 21,7-38,1%). In the conditions of Poozerye maize crops could not compete with alfalfa and other perennial grasses because the clean-cultivated crops promoted the development of water erosion, humus losses and crop nutritive elements.
