THE COMPUTERIZED JOURNAL OF PIG PRODUCTION AS A CUBAN SITE OF PUBLICATION ON PIGS. SOME RELEVANT ASPECTS | LA REVISTA COMPUTADORIZADA DE PRODUCCIÓN PORCINA COMO SITIO CUBANO DE PUBLICACION SOBRE CERDOS (1998-2002). ALGUNOS ASPECTOS RELEVANTES

Se realizó un estudio comparativo entre la Revista Computadorizada de Producción Porcina (RCPP) y la Revista Cubana de Ciencia Agrícola (RCCA) con el objetivo de determinar la importancia de la RCPP como vehículo de publicación científica sobre cerdos y evaluar los trabajos publicados sobre la temática porcina en un período de cinco años (1998-2002). En el quinquenio estudiado 11.0 y 95.0% de los artículos publicados en RCCA y RCPP fueron escritos sobre porcicultura. El tema con mayor incidencia fue el de alimentación y nutrición (89.8 y 65.3% del total; P0.10) aunque la RCPP abarcó un mayor número de aspectos diferentes sobre porcicultura. Los trabajos fueron publicados mayoritariamente en forma de artículos científicos (80.1 y 73.6% del total). La mayor parte de las referencias bibliográficas estuvieron entre 1991 y 2002 (50.5 y 40.6% del total). No hubo diferencias entre revistas en el número de referencias bibliográficas por artículo (promedio para artículos reseñas, notas científicas y artículos científicos, 60.6, 14.1 y 18.2 respectivamente). Ambas revistas utilizaron más las referencias en inglés que en español, y se halló una tendencia al uso de referencias extranjeras no muy actualizadas. Se sugiere que la RCPP mostró durante 1998-2002 un contenido temático sobre porcicultura más balanceado que la RCCA, y que no hubo diferencias sustanciales entre ambas publicaciones en cuanto a distintos indicadores bibliométricos examinados. Estudios como el presente contribuyen a elevar la calidad de las publicaciones por lo que se recomienda un análisis periódico del tema.

A comparison was conducted between the Computerized Journal of Pig Production (RCPP in Spanish) and the Cuban Journal of Agricultural Science (RCCA in Spanish) with the aim of determining the importance of RCPP as instrument of scientific publication of pigs during a period of five years (1998-2002). During the five year-period, 11.0 and 95.0% of the total articles appearing in RCCA and RCPP were about pig production. Feeding and nutrition was the subject more frequently published (89.8 and 65.3% of total; P0.10) and RCPP covered a major number of different subjects concerning pig production. The reports were published in form of scientific articles (80.1 and 73.6% of the total). The majority of references were from 1991 and 2002 (50.5 and 40.6% of the total). There were no differences between both journals in number of references per article (overall average for review articles, scientific notes and scientific articles, 60.6, 14.1 and 18.2 respectively). There were more references in English than in Spanish in both journals, and a trend was observed It is suggested that RCPP showed during 1998-2002 a more balanced content on pig production than RCCA, and that there were no substantial differences between both publications in the examined bibliometrical indicators. It is suggested too that this type of study contributes to upgrade the publication quality, and therefore a periodical analysis of the subject is highly recommended.
