Potted plants of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum, variety Chablis) at the flowering phase were exposed to drought stress during five days under high temperature (day/night temperatures: 26/13 deg C) and low temperature (day/night temperatures: 15/10 deg C) in order to evaluate the effects of drought and heat stress. After the stress period, wheat plants were tested for water potential. After harvesting, number of ears per pot, grains per year, harvest index, number of grains per spikelet, weight of seeds per spikelet and mean weight of one seed per spikelet. Exposure of plants to drought stress under high temperature significantly decreased the values of all the characteristics tested. In conclusion, water stress with high temperature accelerated plant growth and flowering, but reduced yield components.
