The Sobrarbe Chicken breed has been submitted in the last decades to a recovery plan. In the present work, we analyzed DNA form 98 individuals belonging to the two most important varieties of this population. For this purpose, we applied 16 microsatellites markers chosen from the FAO/MoDAD markers set. These markers panel could detect erroneous parentage in more than 99% of the cases. The results allow us to disregard significant inbreeding (FIS= 0,018 sup(NS), p>0,05). On the other hand, significant genetic differences exist among the farms (FST= 0,135 **; p<0,01), probably due to reproductive isolation. The STRUCTURE analysis indicates K=2 as the most probable number of clusters. The two clusters are not directly related to the two varieties. In summary, the viability of the population in the mid term does not seem to be seriously menaced.
