156,899 test-day records for somatic cell count (SCC) obtained between 2004 and 2009 from 34,531 Murciano-Granadina goats in 43 different flocks belonging to Association of Dairy Herd Control of Murciano-Granadina Goats of Castilla-La Mancha (ANCLA, Spain) were used to study the effect of the season of lactation onset on SCC and the relationship with the lactation stage. SCS increase throughout lactation was affected by the season of lactation onset. The most noticeable changes are observed in lactations beginning in summer, above all from the 4th test-day record. The importance of weather conditions on SCC is demonstrated.
