Abstract. In order to evaluate the efficacy of selected herbicides on weeds and yield of direct seeded tomato, an experiment was conducted at agricultural research centers of Safi Abad of Dezful, Isfahan and Tehran ( Karaj ) during 2006 and 2007. The experimental design was randomized complete block with 10 treatments and three replications. Treatments included pre-emergence application of metribuzin at 0.75 and 1 Kg/ha, postemergence application of metribuzin at 0.75 and 1 Kg/ha at 4-leaf stage of tomato, and preemergence application of oxyfluorfen at 2 L/ha, preplant application of napropamide at 2.5 and 4.5 L/ha and weedy and weed free checks. Total number of weeds reduced by application of pre and post metribuzin about 82 and 69% respectively. It is also concluded that oxyfluorfen and napropamid could also suppress weeds 74% and 51% respectively. Total fresh weight of weeds reduced by application of pre and post metribuzin about 26 and 35% respectively. That was about 35% and 17% after application oxyfluorfen and napropamid. The sequence of highest to lowest tomato yield was recorded as weed free check metribuzin pre napropamid oxyfluorfen metribuzin post weedy check.
