Evaluation of Sistan and Baloochestan province coastline Protection Specifications

The main step for achieving protection and sustainable development of coastal zones is identifying all natural charactristics and processing and classifying them. Collecting these informations provides suitable tools for better management of coastal zone, resulting less expensive coastal projects and preventing waste of projects budget. There are different coastal methods for classification of coastal zones which Shepard and Cowardin methods were selected for classification of Sistan & Baluchestan province coasts. For classification of Sistan 8c Baluchestan coastal zones, seven sub-projects were identihed in seven Coastal provinces of the country which "Evaluation of Sistan and Baluchestan province coastline Protection Specification" was one of these sub-projects. ' For this project first the base informations containing l- hydrodynamics parameters such as waves, currents and water surface elevation; 2- geo-sience informations such as geology, sedimentology, sediment transport, erosion and decertion in coastal zones, land use and land capability; 3- climathological informations such as tempressure, wind speed and direction; and moisture content; 4- information about the coastal structures such as coastal protection structures, ports and navigation structures were collected and stored in a database entitled if Iran Coatal Databank" which written by the author in MS Access environment. In addition, the coastal areas of the province were classified by Shepard and Cowardin methods by using the collected information, field observations and GIS and RS activities. The main achievements of the project were: l- An updated database of coastal zones entitled °°Iran Coastal Databank"; A series of maps for Shepard classification and related tables containing tha areas of each class; and 3- A series of maps for Cowardin classification and related tables Containing tha areas of each class. The results of this project also presented in the book °°Iran Coasts" which written by the authur and published by Soil Conservation and Water Management Research Institute.
