The aim of the study was to evaluate colostrum quality which depends on cows' age and calves sex. The research is carried out from November 2009 until August 2010 by evaluating the level of immunoglobulin in colostrum of 349 dairy cows. From 349 samples, 29% – colostrum of high quality, 45% – colostrum of good quality, 12% – colostrum of average quality, but 14% – colostrum of low quality. Comparing cows of 1st, 2 nd and 3 rd lactation, the level of immunoglobulin in colostrum is significantly higher for cows of 4 th lactation and older cows (101.0 mg mLE-1, p is less than 0.05). Significant diversity of the level of immunoglobulin in colostrum 12 hours after calving was shown in all cows age groups (p is less than 0.05). The calving age of primparous cows did not influence the level of immunoglobulin in colostrum (p is less than 0.05), the decrease was already shown during the first 12 hours after calving (from 83.2 until 41.6 mg mLE-1).
