Precision farming requires knowledge of the spatial variation within and among fields. Spatial variability associated with variability of maize yield, plant N, P, k content, soil N, P and K were studied with eighteen genotypes of grain maize (Zea mays L.) trial on a limestone soil at Perak, Malaysia. Yield mapping showed there exist spatial variability present in the study area. Grain yields ranged from 2.19 to 6.91 t haÏ1, leaf N ranged from 2.1 to 39.5 g kgÏ1, leaf P ranged from 4.7 to 8.1 g kgÏ1, leaf K ranged from 21.8 to 38.2 g kgÏ1, soil N ranged from 0.32 to 3.01 g kgÏ1, soil P ranged from 9.95 to 39.77 ppm, soil K ranged from 0.11 to 0.39 cmol kgÏ1, give the geostatistical data for the yield, nutrient etc. The major cause of yield variation in the study field was probably linked to variation within the soil and its associated water logging and genotypes.
