An experiment was conducted to test and evaluate a load cell designed for analysis of compressive failure forces of physic nut seeds. A design tractor of safety equal to 6 and a design axial load of 1000kg were used in the calculating the size of the load cell element. The calculated diameter of the load cell was 0.01903 m or 0.739 in. A 3/4-inch diameter stainless was used instead. The load cell was statistically calibrated with compressive axial loads ranging from 0.3 grams to 14.0 kg. Load cell performance was evaluated in terms of the linearity of the calibration curve and the analysis for compressive failure forces on Jatropha curcas seeds. The regression coefficient for the relationship between load applied and voltage output has a value of 0.9996, proving that the load applied and the voltage output across the bridge was highly related. Results show that seeds subjected to single seed crushing, with average moisture content of 0.62%, the mean compressive force at failure of the seed shell/coat were 131.6497 deg N while the mean compressive force measured at failure of seed kernel was 85.4906 deg N. While in multiple seed crushing, seeds with average moisture content of 1.07%, the mean compressive force at failure of the seed shell were 127.7780 deg N and mean compressive force measured at failure of seed kernel was 89.5427 deg N.
