Breeding heat tolerant varieties is one of the most effective ways for coping into global warming in many rice growing regions. To identify QTL associated with heat tolerance in rice, the progeny of an F2 population derived from an IR64xN22 cross were exposed to 37/24 deg C for 14 days at the flowering stage, and spikelet fertility was used to genotype the F2 progeny, with 280 SNPs, showing polymorphism between IR64 and N22. Four putative QTL were found to be associated with heat tolerance. Two major QTL were located on Chromosome 1(qHTSF1.1, LOD=4.63, a=5.66,d=-16.61)and chromosome 4(qHTSF4.1,LOD=6.66,a=-0.81,d=27.68). These two major QTL could explain 12.6 %(qHTSF1.1)and 17.6%(qHTSF4.1)of the variation in spikelet fertility under high temperature. A comparison with other studies corroborated that both major. QTL identified in this study are major determinants for heat tolerance at flowering stage in rice.
