A study on diversity and abundance of snails in the crop land
2006
Javed, M.
The present study was carried out to know the number, diversity and living strategies of mollusks in relatively low and high input wheat fields of Faisalabad. Soil samples with the help of core samplers and quadrate, iron rectangle of one ft. sq., were taken from two different microhabitats within the wheat fields from the early stage of growth of wheat plants till harvesting for the total duration of 6 months. A total of 44 specimens of snails were collected from the low input wheat fields at Gutti near Nishatabad, Faisalabad. These fields received almost no chemicals. All the high input wheat fields which were located at Ayub Research Farms, Faisalabad did not harbor any snail specimen. Thus the study related that the snails were either sensitive to chemicals or have some affiliation with much of organic matter in the moist soil free of chemicals associated with the irrigation water courses used to irrigate wheat crop of the area under study. All the 44 specimens of snail
