Agro-qualitative response of fodder maize sown alone and in mixture with legumes to different nitrogen levels
2007
Aslam, H.I.
A field experiment to compare yield and quality of maize (Zea mays L.) fodder sown alone and in mixture, with legumes as cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata. L.) and cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonolobus) under four nitrogen levels viz. 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg per ha was conducted. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with split plot arrangement. The experiment was conducted with three replications using net plot size of 2.4 m x 6 m. The seed rate for pure stands of maize, cowpea and cluster bean was 100, 30 and 40 kg per ha, respectively. When sown in mixture a ratio of 50:50 of seed of each crop was used. Data collected on various growth, yield and quality parameters was statistically analyzed by using Fisher's analysis of variance technique and least significant difference (LSD) test at 5% probability level was used to compare the differences among treatments means. The growth characteristics like plant height, number of leaves per plant, stem diameter an
