Study on the comparative growth and yield performance of six fine rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.)
2007
Ahmad, M.N.
The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications using a net plot size of 3.6 x 7.0m. Six cultivars i.e. Basmati-385, Shaheen-Basmati, Basmati-Super, Basmati-198, Basmati-370 and Basmati-2000 were included in the experiment. Nursery was sown on 12th June, 2006 and transplanted on 20th July, 2006. The row to row and hill to hill distance was kept 22.5 cm. All other agronomic practices such as weeding, irrigation etc. were kept normal and uniform for all the cultivars under study. The results obtained shows that the rice cultivar Basmati-Super produced maximum number of productive tillers 278.0 as against the minimum in case of Basmati-370 which produced 248 productive tillers. Panicle appearance started earlier in Shaheen-Basmati i.e. 63 days after transplanting while Basmati-370, and Basmati-2000 tools about 81 days after transplanting. Similarly maximum leaf area index was observed in Basmati-198. The cv. Basmati-370 produced ta
