Two-year experiments have been conducted in order to select potato cultivars suitable for cultivation in the agroecological conditions of Bosnia and Herzegovina with respect to their yield performance, quality and adaptability. The test years differed in climatic conditions, especially the amount and distribution of rainfall, which was reflected on the yield and quality of the potato cultivars. The trial was established in a random block system in four replications and it included 14 potato cultivars. Dry matter content in tubers and the aboveground vegetative parts, number of tubers per plant, number of stems, tuber size categories and the weights of the aboveground vegetative parts and tubers were assessed in the course of the growing season. Contents of dry matter, proteins, starch, nitrates and nitrites, number of tubers per plant, proportion of size categories in the total yield per cultivar, rate of removal of mineral elements and the yield of tubers were assessed at the stage of full physiological maturity of potatoes. The studied cultivars differed in yield performance and quality. Based on these differences, most productive and quality-superior cultivars will be recommended to potato growers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conducted trial indicated that there were no increases in nitrate contents associated with cultivars or experiment year.
