Seedling plants were grown on substrates containing soil and manure. Soil content ranged from 50 to 90%, and the share of manure accounted from 10-50%. The content of the control sibstrate was entirely soil. Manure effect was monitored with regard to plant height, number of leaves per plant and plant weight. The effect of manure on seedlings was favourable. On average both plant height and plant weight were increased by 10.58 cm and 11.85 g respectively. Plant height was 32.54 cm and plant weight 29.26 g. The number of leaves per plant was 6.11. Seedlings grown on substrates containing manure had a greater number of leaves (the difference was 0.56 leaves). Therefore, the effect of manure on watermelon seedlings was favourable.
