The research was conducted on stud farms on mares used for breeding. The primary criteria for mare selection are, first, that a mare had not foaled at least one breeding season, and second, the diagnosis of the present bacterial infection in the uterus. It was determined that in the examined population in Serbia bacterial infections of genital organs of mares represent a significant problem in reproduction, which is confirmed by finding the bacterial species. The research determined statistically highly significant correlations between different parameters: length of barring period and age of mares; number of foalings and age of mares; age of mares and length of barring period with different age groups of mares; number of foalings and different age groups of mares; results form endometrial cytology before and after the therapy. By the analysis of statistical parameters which refer to the results of uterine bacteriological culture and factors such as: length of barring period, age of mares, breed, feeding, way of keeping and using mares, no significant correlation was determined. In the first examination of horses in stud farms in Serbia, no presence of genital organs infection with Taylorella equigenitalis was detected with mares. After application of two therapy protocols significant improvements ensued, i.e. decrease of the level of bacterial infection in the uterus.
