The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of added natural mineral absorbent zeolite (clinoptilolite) on total protein concentration, concentration of albumine, as well as on aminoacidic component of blood serum in calves in neonatal period. The experiment was done on 60 newborn calves set in four different groups, each group made of 15 newborns. In each group calves were given 1.5 L of colostrum in 2, 12, 24 and 36 hours after birth. In first group, the calves were given only colostrum, in 2nd group calves were given colostrum with addition of 5% mineral absorbent. In 3rd group calves were given 1.5L colostrum with addition of 5% mineral absorbent (2 and 12 hours old calves were given the first colostrum, while 24 and 36 old calves were given second colostrum), the 4th group was treated the same as the third group with the exeption of mineral absorbent. Through analysis of the blood samples it was shown that the values of total protein concentration were the highest for 30 hours after birth and lowest for 6 hours after birth in control group and experimental group 1. Statistically significant difference in total protein concentration was determined in 16th, 30th and 40th hour in blood serum of group I when compered to control group 1. This indicates that peroral administration of suspension of clinoptilolite based mineral absorbent to newborn calves significantly increaces resorption of colostral proteins. The average concentration of total proteins in blood serum of both control group and experimental group 2, measured in the previously mentioned time intervals, do not differ significantly.
