The regional – geographic study of Gruza (Serbia) is an attempt to explain the causes and consequences of the complex changes in the region and their influence on the contemporary geographic characteristics. Geospatially, Gruza is an individualized whole with specific position and physical – geographic, demographic and economic characteristic. The nature of Gruza does not represent a limiting factor of the economic development of the region. The studied territory is situated in the southwestern Sumadija, on the contact of Visoka Sumadija and Zapadno Pomoravlje. It has always been attractive for settling and traditional economy. Land under cultivation is the basic natural resource of Gruza and agriculture needs to be the near future. In the newly created economic conditions (ownership transformation of enterprises and restructuration of the production process) it is necessary to coordinate the further development of agriculture and non-agricultural activities. By optimal valorization and usage of the natural and socio-economic resources the settlement would strengthen their economy and depopulation process would be slowed down. Thus a homogenous region as Gruza is would join faster the regional courses of development.
