Leachate water is produced by dissolving of various substances in water inside the landfill body (atmospheric water and water contained in waste). Contamined leachate water can infiltrate into ground water and surrounding soil, causing significant water and soil pollution problems. Depending on the type of waste, presence of polluting supstances is the result of chemical and biological reactions within the landfill body. In Vojvodina region, Republic of Serbia, only municipal waste landfill in Kikinda is constructed according to sanitary regulation including landfill bottom liner system and system for collection of leachate water. The main objectives of the paper were to assess basic physico-chemical properties of piezometric water and to compare results of piezometric water quality from municipal waste landfills in Vojvodina in order to determine and monitor possible contamination of ground water caused by toxic ground filtrates.
