The aim of this study was to ultimately breed lines of Vicia sativa (common vetch) with less than 0.4% g-Glu-b-CN-Ala + b-CN-Ala for poultry-feed. Conclusions of this study are: Best selection to date is a dark seeded Love 3 line (0.45+/-0.07%); use of white testa for distinguishing low toxin lines; selection for low toxin (LO-VETTM) Vicia sativa cultivars is facilitated by single seed analysis of the first two seeds in a pod, using SAS JMP Self Organizing Map clustering and Discriminate Analysis software.
