Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is the dominant forage legume of acid soils. The objective of this paper was to determine the major parameters of forage quality (crude protein, crude cellulose, fats, ash, NFE) by cut in the most commonly used varieties of red clover in Serbia (K-17, Kolubara, Una, Viola and Start) over a two-year production cycle (2004-2005). The varieties differed significantly in their crude cellulose and NFE contents, whereas with respect to the other parameters there were no significant differences among them. In both years, the crude cellulose and ash contents were somewhat higher in the first cut, while the fat content was significantly higher at the end of the growing season.
