A field trial involving two-row winter barley cultivars (Record, Jagodinac, Crystal and Premium) was set up on acid soil (pH H2O 4.5) in order to evaluate the effect of different mineral and organic fertilization rates and limiting on plants height, spike number per square meter and grain weight per spike. Regardless of fertilization treatment, significant differences in plant height, spike number per square meter and grain weight per spike were observed among cultivars. Mineral and organic fertilization induced a significant increase in the values of the traits analyzed as compared to the non-fertilized control. The different responses of cultivars on different rates of mineral fertilizers and limiting on acid soils that exhibit reduced availability of nutritients, particularly P, N and K suggest substantial differences among cultivars in the uptake and utilization of mineral nutritients.
