Agriculture takes a significant place in the overall economy of the Republic of Serbia, and its contribution to the national economy must be adequate. However, the contribution of agriculture in the economy is usually lower than expected. In the past decade agruculture passed through some structural and systemic changes. These changes, aimed to improve standards of quality and food safety, are directly related to the requirements set out in the join process to the European Union and the WTO. Today, the dairy industry makes a significant contribution to Serbian agricultural production in whole. Also, the dairy sector is among the most demanding regarding standards that must be met when accessing the common agricultural market. National regulations in the field of dairy industry contribute to process of removing the administrative and trade barriers, as well as strengthening the competitiveness and export orientation of domestic producers and the overall economy of our country.
