The paper compares EU and Serbian legislation pertaining to pre-harvest interval (PH) and maximum residue limits (MRLs) of pesticides used in Rubes and Ribes species. The number of active substances registered in Serbia for this purpose is not substantial; two herbicides (dichlobenil, oxyfluorfen), one insecticide (dimethoate) and 12 fungicides (azoxystrobin, cooper hydroxide, cooper oxychlorid, boscalid, dodine, iprodione, fenhexamid, mancozeb, metalaxyl, pyrimethanil, triforine and vinclozolin). Serbian regulations have esablished the PHI and MRL for Rubes and Ribes species for the mentioned pesticides (active substances). Most of these pesticides are also used in EU countries according to Annex I Directive 91/414, some of them are in the process of inclusion (application resubmitted) and some (triforine) are not. However, for all of them MRLs for rubes and Ribes species are set at EU level. It is important to establish MRL and PHI for a number of reasons, the most important of which is certainly safety and reduction of possible harmful impact of pesticides to an absolute minimum. For the purpose of export to EU market local regulations need to be harmonized with EU legislation.
