2006
Abdalla, N.E., Agricultural Research Corporation, Shendi Research Station, Shendi (Sudan)
An experiment was undertaken at Shendi Research Station Farm in season 2005/06 to evaluate the efficacy and selectivity of Pilargola, a new formulation of oxyfluorfen, on weed control in transplanted onion. Pilargola at 0.1 kg a.i. per fed without supplementary hand weeding gave excellent ( 90%) control of grasses throughout the season. The product had excellent control of broadleaved weeds (88%) early in the season. However, the activity, against broadleaved weeds late in the season was satisfactory (66% control). The herbicide treatment when supported by hand weeding maintained excellent control of broadleaved weeds throughout the season. The product had similar activity against weed as the counterpart treatment did. All herbicide treatments reduced the time required for supplementary hand weeding and weed biomass by 87 _89% and 63-66%, respectively. All herbicide treated plots outyielded the unweeded control and the yield attained was comparable to the weeded control
