Eutrophication of surface water caused by increased concentrations of macronutrients leads to a production of phytoplankton - consisting of algae and cyanophytes. Increased amounts of algae and cyanophytes have negative impact on water quality. In eutrophic water their excess is commonly associated with excessive consumption of dissolved oxygen over a night and its morning deficiency in water. Eutrophication process is normally reflected in other water properties such as P content and pH values, that were monitored over a phenological period in a fire protection reservoir in Modra.
