Comparative transversal imaging anatomic study of the domestic rabbit bulbouretral glands | Сравнително трансверзално образноанатомично изследване на булбоуретралните жлези при домашния заек

We studied 10 sexually matured, clinically healthy male white New Zealand rabbits at age 8 months, weighing 2.8 kg to 3.2 kg. A perineal sonographic approach was applied. The glands were observed, by us in transverse projection. The rabbit bulbourethral glands were visualized as solid homogenous hyperechoic findings with relatively high echogenicity, being situated dorsolaterally to the bulbar urethra. The glands ovoid shape was confirmed via performed ultrasound studies. The computed tomographic study demonstrated, that the rabbit bulbourethral glands are transversally oval homogenous and relatively hyperdense structures towards the surround soft tissues. They are observed by us via the transversal section of the pelvic outlet in the plane through the second coccygeal vertebra dorsally, body of the ischium before tuber ischiadicum laterally and dorsally from the caudal symphisis edge - arcus ischiadicus. From five of the all investigated animals, after their euthanasy, we obtained transversal frozen slices through the pelvic outlet, which were compared with the transversal imaging anatomic sections. The results from the transversal imaging anatomic study of the rabbit bulbourethral glands could be useful as anatomic base about diagnosis of the glandۥs diseases in this rodent species.
