The article studies the effect of the shape of field on the length of the turns performed by a symmetrical unit, on the width of stripe for turning and on the additional double cultivated area resulting from some turns. Oblong pear-shaped turn, shortened pear-shaped turn, eight-shaped turn and stretched turn have been examined. The comparative analysis has been made for a specific unit. It has been found out that shortened pear-shaped turns have the smallest length, but they result in an additional double cultivated area. Oblong pear-shaped turn and eight-shaped turn has the smallest width of strip for turning. Only in the oblong pear-shaped turn there is no additional double cultivated area. It is recommended in a field with irregular shape and positive angle between the direction of movement of the unit and the border of the field to use oblong pear-shaped or eight-shaped left turns in shuttle movement of the unit and stretched left turns in bed-like movement. In negative angle – respectively the oblong pear-shaped, eight-shaped and stretched right turns.
