In course of the analysis of literature data there was studied the European maize (Zea mays) borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.) incidence in European countries and in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. As a result of realized studied it was revealed that in Europe corn borer spreads in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Southern England. In European countries by this phytophagous was damaged from 2.25 to 4 mln ha of corn. In the Republic of Belarus corn borer was marked in 1962 in Gomel region as a pest of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). At the moment area of corn borer coincides with the main regions of maize – Gomel and Brest regions. However, cultivation was expansion in the northern regions of Belarus. Corn borer harmfulness depending on the stage of its development and damaged plant stage was described. The substantiation of the expediency of corn protection system against the indicated pest was given.
