In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus in 1998–1999 there was realized research of the combinative ability of different varieties of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) and determined the nonequivalence of reciprocal hybrids in the degree of heterosis. The study was realized on sod-podzolic soil, developing on loesslike and loess deposits, underlain by moraine loams, about 1 m, depth of 22-26 cm of the arable layer. The background of fertilizer formed from the autumn application of N15P30K60 and spring top-dressing N50. The humus content - 1.7%, content of mobile forms of phosphorus - 180, and potassium - 230 mg/kg of soil. The reaction of the soil medium - pH 5 and 8. The climate is temperate continental. In course of the research there was estimated the initial material of winter wheat according to combination ability, determined variety selection signs sources and varieties with high variety-forming ability, studied reciprocal effects and their relation to combination ability. The difference in productivity of hybrids from direct and back crossings and its causes was established.
