Se pretende obtener funciones de predicción del peso vivo (PV) a partir de las mediciones del perímetro torácico (PT) de cabras mestizas lecheras de los genotipos Saanen, Alpina y Nubia. Se observó efecto significativo del número de dientes y del genotipo. Se detectó una elevada correlación entre el perímetro torácico y el peso vivo (P0.01) para todos los genotipos estudiados, siendo el primer cambio dentario el de mayor coeficiente de correlación. Los genotipos Saanen y Nubia mostraron un comportamiento similar para el PV y PT, por esta razón las estimaciones fueron realizadas con la misma ecuación. The objective of this study was to obtain live weight (LW) prediction functions from measurements of the thoracic perimeter (TP) in dairy crossbred goats of the Saanen, Alpine and Nubia genotypes. A significant effect of the number of teeth and the genotype was observed. A high correlation between the thoracic perimeter and the live weight (P 0.01) was found for all genotypes studied, being of highest coefficient of correlation the first dental change. The Saamen and Nubia genotypes showed a similar performance for LW and TP, thus, the estimations were made with the same equation.
