To investigate, collect and domesticate the ficus carica for parpose of pilot afforestation in Lorestan province.

The ficus carica is beling to the Maraceae family.It has 600 species which the most of them are wild. It is believed that the origin of ficus carica is the Mediterranean area. Therefore the scientists have classified this fruit under the category of subtropical fruits. ( faghi,2001) The site regions of ficus carica in Iran are as follow: Gorgan,Lorestan, Mazandaran, Fars , Gillan, Khorasan, Azarbayjan,Tehran and Arak.The environmental threats resulting from the trend of degeneration of forests and rangelands because of destroying the wates resources is a catasrophy for human life as well as the nature. Every year million tons of soil is destroyed as a result of vegetation damages and destruction.This study introduces a scientific method for pilot afforestation in Lorestan province which was conducted from 2003 to 2007. The steps of conducting this research have been explained below:Step one:In the first step a research was conducted for the study of distribution of different ecotypes of ficus carica. Some criterias such as morphology characteristics, quality of fruits and ability of domesticating were considered. A sample of 55 ficus carica elitebase sites within the different parts of province were selected for furthes study.Step Two:In the second stage during autumn and winter seasons the number of 50 cuttings with length of 40 cm to 50 cm were cut from the selected sites. The 50 cuttings were transferred and planted in nursery. Some characteristics of cutting such as survival, productivity and, height and diameters growth were measured during the period of the study.The results obtained from the study were analyzed by using statistical methods and softwares, spss.This study revealed the following fiudings:1-The elite base site for ficus carica in different pasts of province were discorved.2-The superios and precious species based on some characteristics such as survival, productivity and; hight and diameters growth were determined and selected.3-To domesticate the wild elite species.4-To introduce and select the best elite species amoung different samples for purpose pilot affarestation.This study revealed the following findings:1. The elite base sites for ficus casita in different pasts of province were discorved. 2. The superiors and precious species based on some characteristics such as survival, productivity and; height and diameters growth were determined and selected.3. To domesticate the wild elite species.4. To introduce and select thy best elite species amoung different samples for purpose pilot affarestation.
