Evaluation and determination of commercial sugar beet varieties to bolting in khuzestan

This experiment was conducted in 2004 at the Safi Abad agricultural research center of Dezful , I.R.Iran , to evaluate the bolting resistance characteristics of domestic and imported cultivars of sugar beet.The experimental design was a randomized complete block in 12 treatments with four replicate. Ten imported cultivars was compared with tow domestic monogerm hybrid cultivars of Rasoul and Shirin. Results of the experiment showed that there were significant difference in root yield,percent sugar content , white sugar yield and bolting resistance among cultivars.Cultivars H9792, H0012 and posada with 11.2 , 10.4 and 10.1t/ha had the highest lend of white sugar yield, respectively.significant difference was observed for bolting among cultivars.Mean percent of bolting was % 2..3 .cultivars Linda¡ H9916¡ Giada¡ Suprema and Posada(check) were without boltingsymptoms and were resistant to bolting. cultivar Shirin with %9.75 bolting had the highest level of bolting.
