The survey on socio-economic conditions of rice farmers' in salt_affected area in Mazandaran.

farmers in salt-affected areas are usually less fortunate in terms of economical capabilities. they are unable, even reluctant, to employ new technologies without financial help from the government. therefore, it is important that credit policies be supported by the pertinent government agencies to help farmers overcome the problems associated with the harsh environment and make greater contributions to the agricultural development. This study examined Socio-Economic and Environmental condition of salt-affected soils and the relationships between soil salinity, Socio-Economic and Environmental condition and affecting factors including: crop yield, cost of production, damage of production and income of farmers in four cities(Babolsar, Sarri, Joybar and Behshahr). Data collected by standard questionnair that had desighned by International Rice Research Institute. After performing pre-test, the questionnair were regular to three basic subjects(Socio-Economic and Environmental condition). analysis was performed by applying astatistics models(Phi and Cramer"Ss V, Eta and descriptive). The result indicate that more than double of farmers were believed that salinity of water and soil affected on change has taken place in economic condition of the household during last 5 years and there were sighnificant relationship between salt-affected areas and decreasing yield ,damage of yield , income and cost of Irrigation and pesticides (r =625 ) , (r = 0.419), (r = 0.459), (r = 0.117) and (r = 0.228) respectively. Also there were sighnificant relationship between salt-affected areas and environmental factors( r0.1) including amount of Urea, phosphate, number of times applying pesticides. Finally there were sighnificant relationship between salinity and agronomic factors(kind of variety, r =0.250) socio factors(immigration, r =0.294), and governmental supports(loan taken, r = 0.192).
