To evaluate safflower varieties/lines in spring and winter sowing in rainfed condition, this study carried out in Sararood dryland Agricultural Research Station which included 3 experiments separatly. In first experiment 933 safflower genotypes evaluated in spering and winter sowing. Each genotype included 2 rows with 4 meter length and 30 centimetre row spacing. Resultes showed that there was high genetic variation for seed yield and 7 agronomic traits in both of sowing dates. The range of growth period for spring and winter sowing were 120-147 and 237-254 days, respectively. Plant height range was 42-107 and 34-120 centimeter in spring and winter planting, respectively. In othere characters also there were wide range of variation. Finaly 268 genotypes selected to more studies. In second experiment 15 new safflower varieties evaluated in rainfed condition. Each varieties planted in 5 rows with 4 meter length and 30 centimetre row spacing in RCBD with 3 replications. Resltes showed that varieties Snc.391 and Snc. 379 had the highest seed yield with 1765.6 and 1756.7 Kg/ha, respectively. Due to high seed yield the oil yield of these varieties were the highest also. These varieties had the highest seed weight among varieties. In third experiment 23 spinless safflower varietes evaluated in winter and spring sowing. Each varieties planted in 5 rows with 5 meter length and 30 centimetre row spacing in RCBD with 3 replications. Results revealed that varieties 2045 and 750/63 had the highest seed and oil yield in both of spring and winter planting. It showed that they are well adapted to rainfed condition. In spring planting they produced 1040 and 912.2 Kg/ha seed yield, respectively. They produced 1157 and 1126 Kg/ha seed yield in winter sowing, respectively.
